“The Israelification of Airports: High Security, Little Bother”
(it’s more effective, AND cheaper.)

It should be pointed out that the “Ground Zero mosque” these idiots are ranting about is actually a proposed community center with an auditorium, swimming pool, and restaurants, in addition to a mosque. It would be housed in an existing 13-story building that’s two blocks away from Ground Zero and has no view of the area; there are two very big buildings in between the proposed community center and Ground Zero. The idea of this being a “Ground Zero mosque” is a ridiculous paranoid fantasy.
Suppose the community center was five blocks away instead of two blocks away. Would that be OK? How about if it was in midtown? Far enough? Maybe it needs to be in Queens?
If you want a special exception to America’s religious tolerance, where are you going to draw the line?
I’m blogging this because I enjoy the books of Sam Harris, and I find his thoughts interesting.
I’m blogging this for me. For me! :)
(CNN) — For the world to tackle truly important problems, people have to stop looking to religion to guide their moral compasses, the philosopher Sam Harris told CNN.
“We should be talking about real problems, like nuclear proliferation and genocide and poverty and the crisis in education. These are issues which tremendous swings in human well-being depend on. And it’s not at the center of our moral concern. Religion causes people to fixate on issues of less moral importance.”
yes it has a provocative title, but i find it quite interesting. surprised cnn carries it. (i also realize some religious people are more concerned with suffering than anything else, i just wish all of them were.)
goin through my youtube favorites, this one is from campaign season, but still relevant regarding those who cry ‘socialism!’ at anything they’ve been told not to like. david gergen calls it how he sees it.

ohgolly i lol’d xD mostly cuz i used to be mormon, and still have mormon family & friends who i enjoy teasing. teehee :3 on a serious note, here is part of judge walker’s ruling:
“Moral disapproval alone is an improper basis on which to deny rights to gay men and lesbians. The evidence shows conclusively that Proposition 8 enacts, without reason, a private moral view that same-sex couples are inferior to opposite-sex couples. Because Proposition 8 disadvantages gays and lesbians without any rational justification, Proposition 8 violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
